Kelly Charles – You’re No Good For Me

0

The sample of Kelly Charles “You’re No Good For Me” from 1987 is used both in Hithouse “Jack To The Sound Of The Underground” (1988) and Prodigy “No Good (Start The Dance)” (1994).

Listen to all three songs cut up in this compilation

Hithouse

Peter Slaghuis sampled Kelly Charles “You’re No Good For Me” for his big hit “Jack To The Sound Of The Underground” under an English variation of his name Hithouse (a literal translation of his name Slaghuis). It became the first House hit in the Netherlands and above all the first Dutch House hit in general. The track is full of samples, unique in that period in time.

The Prodigy

The Prodigy released the album “Music For The Jilted Generation”, that contained the track “No Good (Start The Dance)” in 1994.

Energiehal Rotterdam

A year before that release they performed in the Energiehal Rotterdam during the ‘Night Of The Ravers (03-04-93). That night Holy Noise also entered the stage for a concert, a formation founded by Peter Slaghuis, Rob Fabrie and Paul Elstak. Peter Slaghuis died 05-09-1991. Two and half year before that party in Energiehal. Holy Noise did not have “Jack To The Sound Of The Underground” on their setlist of course.

It still is fascinating for me to see both names on the poster for the event. A distant connection.
