It’s got a groove, it’s got a meaning

audio

listen to a combination of the three mentioned songs

Flo Morrissey and Matthew E. White / Ann Peebles / Franki Valli

A Soul version by Singer-Songwriter duo Flo Morrisey and Matthew E. White, of a Disco tune performed by Franki Valli that was the title track for a Rock ‘n Roll play that got more fame as a movie.

The movie ‘Grease’ was a story with mainly 50’s soundtrack. But not for the opening song. That one was Disco.

The title track was written by Barry Gibb of the Bee Gees, the music as well as the lyrics. He is also singing in the background choir. Peter Frampton plays guitar and Frankie Valli sings the song. The Bee Gees performed the song live for a a certain time.

Frankie Valli was already a celebrated member of the Four Seasons and he had also solo hits. Grease was his biggest hit.

I found the version of Flo Morrissey en Matthew E. White by accident at the Dutch Music Library Muziekweb. Funny that the intro is in turn inspired by another song, namely “I Can’t Stand The Rain”. Originally by Ann Peebles but in Nederland more know by the version of Eruption.

“Grease” has been covered many times and also sampled by the likes of De La Soul.

The parody of this religious band ApologetiX is rather special: “Jezus The Word”!
